The Arab world that is weary of the terror and savagery of ISIS is well-aware of the group’s tactics and is fully prepared to remain vigilant against its desperate attempts to wreak havoc and shed innocent blood. For its part, Egypt has consistently been at the forefront in the fight against terrorism, and its security forces continue to deal the remnants of ISIS heavy blows on a daily basis. Despite being afflicted by a series of cowardly terrorist attacks, Egypt remains firm in its stance against violent extremism and relentless in its mission to counter radicalism and eliminate terrorism. Following the defeat of ISIS in Iraq and Syria, the terror group makes desperate and final attempts to find fertile ground in the Egyptian Sinai Peninsula but to no avail.
On September 4, four extremists were killed and four citizens kidnapped in Sinai province, where security forces continue to carry out operations to target terrorist elements loyal to ISIS. The next day, the terror group took to Twitter to claim having clashed with army forces near Sheikh Zuweid north of Sinai and destroyed army vehicles. There have been conflicting reports regarding the number of citizens kidnapped by the gunmen.
While a security source was reported as saying that unidentified gunmen blocked the international road of Arish-Qantara and kidnapped six civilians, the Sinai Tribes Union said the number of abductees stood at four, indicating that ISIS carried out the operation. An eyewitness noted that six terrorists attacked Masfag, fired a number of gunshots and kidnapped the civilians, while four other militants secured the international road. He explained that during their escape, joint forces of the army and police arrived, and deployed in the area, while a military aircraft bombed the car of one of the kidnappers, killing the four terrorists.
Another futile attempt by ISIS to spread chaos is met by the vigilance and determination of Egyptian security forces that continue to successfully battle armed groups in northern Sinai.
