An ISIS sleeper cell was recently dismantled in Libya, as Libya struggles with an internal conflict that has become a full-scale civil war, the threat of ISIS continues to linger as terror sleeper cells attempt to exploit the national crisis to stir chaos and shed innocent blood.
Recent US AFRICOM airstrikes in southern Libya killed 43 ISIS fighters thereby degrading the capacity of an already weak and depleted group with the ultimate goal to disrupt the terrorists’ planning, training, and activities.
On October 13, Sabratha security forces arrested Moaz Mabrouk al-Falah in the south of the city on suspicion of collaborating with terrorist groups. Falah, who was born in 1997, has been accused of cooperating with ISIS members and smuggling groups. He reportedly confessed that there are sleeper cells in Sabratha planning to undertake operations to destabilize the city. According to a security source, al-Falah is considered a link between gangs in Zawiya and terrorist sleeper cells in Sabratha, and his arrest would inevitably impede the perpetration of deadly terrorist attacks.
