NATIONAL SECURITY ISSUES
- The Nigerian government, in collaboration with the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), repatriated 147 irregular Nigerian migrants stranded in Libya. Kabiru Musa, Charge d’Affaires En Titre of the Nigerian Mission in Libya, disclosed this in a statement.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) said on Tuesday that 316 migrants were intercepted off the coast of Libya last week. “From 18 to 24 February 2024, 316 migrants were intercepted and returned to Libya.,” IOM said in a statement. So far in 2024, 1,394 migrants were intercepted and returned to Libya, according to IOM.

The United Nations Security Council reiterated its “strong commitment” to an “inclusive political process” in Libya that allows for “free, fair, transparent and inclusive national presidential and parliamentary elections to be held as soon as possible.”
- The Executive Director of the Libya Reconstruction Fund, Belkasem Haftar, discussed joint cooperation and support of the ongoing reconstruction efforts with US Chargé d’Affaires Jeremy Berndt. During a phone conversation, the two specifically talked about the Fund’s strategy to bring about comprehensive development, especially for Libyan cities affected by Storm Daniel which, on September 9, caused severe flooding the next day after two dams upstream from Derna collapsed, killing over 20,000 people.
- General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, the de facto ruler of Sudan and leader of the Sovereign Council, arrived in Libya where he held talks with the country’s Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh in the capital Tripoli.In his first visit to Libya, Burhan discussed with Dbeibeh “a number of regional and international issues of common interest between the two countries,” according to a brief statement by the Libyan premier’s media office.

- Commander of Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, also known as Hemedti, arrived in Tripoli where he met the prime minister of the Government of National Unity (GUN) of Libya, Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, with whom he had “fruitful and constructive” discussions on developments in Sudan, according to a statement by Dagalo via X.
