NATIONAL SECURITY ISSUES
- The Public Prosecution initiated proceedings. This was against a criminal gang. The gang is active in migrant smuggling by sea. Investigations led to the arrest of suspects. They were caught manufacturing boats. These boats were specialized for smuggling operations. The Attorney General’s Office acted on information. The information came from the Special Tasks Department. It concerned an organized group. This group specialized in manufacturing boats. These boats were used to transport irregular migrants. They were transported from Sileen area beaches. Their destination was the northern Mediterranean Sea. Based on this information, the Public Prosecution authorized a search. The search resulted in two individuals being apprehended. They were actively engaged in boat manufacturing.

- The Anti-Counterfeiting and Forgery Department of the Criminal Investigation Agency arrested a suspect. The suspect claimed he could register citizens for the 2025 Hajj lists. This was in exchange for money. The agency stated through its media office that the department referred a complaint. Seven citizens filed this complaint against the suspect. The suspect had claimed to work for the General Authority for Hajj. He promised to include their names on Hajj pilgrim lists. This was in exchange for financial sums. The total amount was 27,750 dinars. This sum was purportedly for visas and special Hajj procedures.
- The body management unit of the Libyan Red Crescent Society’s Ajdabiya branch recovered 21 bodies. This occurred on Saturday. The bodies are presumed to be migrants. This operation followed a report from the Ajdabiya Public Prosecutor’s Office. The Ajdabiya Red Crescent branch issued a statement through its media office. It said this recovery is part of ongoing humanitarian efforts. These efforts by the branch also included the liberation of 195 migrants. These migrants had been held in forced detention by a smuggler. The branch confirmed its continued dedication to humanitarian missions. This work involves cooperation with local authorities and international partners. Its purpose is to serve humanity. It also aims to preserve human dignity in all circumstances.

- The Law Enforcement Department announced an operation. They seized a truck in Mezdah city. The truck carried 400 boxes of cooking oil. This oil was being sold at inflated prices. These prices violated official rates set by the Ministry of Economy and Trade. The department explained this in a post on its official page on Tuesday. Invoices accompanying the shipment showed high prices. A single oil package was priced at 17.50 dinars. This clearly violated basic commodity price regulations. Department personnel immediately seized the truck. They also confiscated its contents. The truck and oil were handed over to the Municipal Guard. The guard will take necessary legal actions within their jurisdiction.

NATIONAL POLITICS AND SOCIAL ISSUES
- Libya has been elected as President of the Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions for 2027. The National Council for Liberties and Human Rights represents Libya. The election occurred at the conclusion of the Executive Committee meetings. It also took place at the 25th General Assembly meeting of the Arab Network. These meetings were held in Manama, Bahrain. Heads and representatives of member national institutions participated. The Network’s General Secretariat was also present. Libya’s election coincided with the Arab Network’s approval of its 2026 operational plan. This plan includes various programs and activities. These include organizing specialized seminars. It also involves regional and international meetings. The plan aims to enhance cooperation with human rights institutions and relevant bodies. This cooperation spans regional and international levels.
- Members of the Qaminis Municipal Council elected Mohammad Balqasim Al-Badri as mayor. Al-Badri is the head of the “Al-Safina” list. This list won the recent electoral process. The municipal council members affirmed their determination. They will implement their electoral promises. They also pledged to develop services. Furthermore, they will improve the performance of the municipal council in Qaminis.

- Tuesday, January 13, the electoral procedures for electing the mayor of Sebha Municipality were completed. This took place at the Sebha Electoral Management Office. The voting process resulted in the election of Haffaf Omar Ali Al-Aswad as mayor. He was elected by the unanimous vote of the elected municipal council members. The election was conducted in the presence of the committee formed by Resolution No. (6) of 2026. All members of the Municipal Council were present. Representatives from civil society organizations and media outlets also attended. The process upheld transparency and adhered to approved legal procedures.

INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS
- Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, received a high-level delegation from the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan at the General Command Headquarters. The delegation was led by Major General Yousef Al-Huneiti, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Jordanian Armed Forces, as part of the joint coordination and cooperation between the General Command of the Libyan Armed Forces and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. An official reception ceremony was held, where the delegation was welcomed by General Saddam Haftar, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.

General Saddam Haftar, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, arrived in the French capital, Paris, following an official invitation. During the visit, he held a formal meeting at the Élysée Palace with General Vincent Guiraud, Chief of the Military Staff of the French President, and Mr. Paul Soler, the Special Envoy of President Emmanuel Macron. During the meeting, General Saddam Haftar conveyed the greetings of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, to His Excellency President Emmanuel Macron, expressing his and the accompanying delegation’s appreciation for the warm reception.

- A consultative meeting was held this Tuesday, January 13. It took place at the headquarters of the Ministry of Defense of the Government of National Unity. The Ministry’s Office of Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law participated. The United Nations Mine Action Service in Libya also attended. They discussed aspects of joint cooperation. The meeting focused on capacity building and technical support. This cooperation aims to align with international standards and human rights. Delegates from the Department of Weapons and Ammunition and the Military Engineering Department attended. The Chief of Staff led these delegates.
