NATIONAL SECURITY ISSUES
- The Attorney General’s Office announced that the chairman, and the trade, tender, and standards officials of the Price Stability Fund have been detained pending their trial for contract fraud. The Chief Prosecutor at the Attorney General’s Office, found irregularities in contract procedures by the accused for the supply of 9,000 tons of rice in 2017, including a contract price difference of US$ 2.169 million. The accused also agreed to receive the food item despite its lack of requirements and conditions related to quality, and their knowledge of the lack of validity 3,000 tons of the material for human consumption.
- The Attorney General’s Office reported that the Tripoli Criminal Court issued a verdict convicting the head of the political mission of Libya to Belgium (and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg) to seven years imprisonment for embezzlement. The court, the Attorney General’s Office reported, investigated evidence proving that she violated the ethical obligations by deliberately contributing to the commission of an act of achieving illegal material benefits, unlawfully seizing public funds and causing harm to the public interest.
NATIONAL POLITICS AND SOCIAL ISSUES
- Al-Hadba Al-Khadra General Hospital announced that for first time since its establishment, and through catheterization operations for arteries in its Cardiac Catheterization Unit for heart disease, a delicate operation for therapeutic catheterization of congenital heart abnormalities was successfully conducted last Sunday (2 May).
- The Tripoli Public Services Company announced last Thursday 30 May that the second batch of trees of the One million tree-planting initiative had arrived in Tripoli. The trees, it added had been successfully transferred to the nurseries to start the planting process. The first batch of trees had arrived on 14 May.
INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS
- Libya’s Tripoli based Foreign Ministry reported that Poland is preparing to reopen its embassy in Tripoli. The announcement followed the arrival of a delegation from the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, headed by Mr. Jacek Todorewicz, Director of the Africa and Middle East Department in Tripoli. The delegation was received by Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs, Mohammed Khalil Issa.
