NATIONAL SECURITY ISSUES
- The Attorney General’s Office reported that Prosecutors have order the detention of former officials responsible for managing administrative and financial affairs, the treasury, the financial department, and the financial control department at the Ministry of Labour. Investigating the seizure of public funds deposited in the account of the Ministry of Labour at the Central Bank of Libya, the investigator inferred that the accused caused serious damage to its funds as a result of behaviour incompatible with their job duties.
NATIONAL POLITICS AND SOCIAL ISSUES
- The National Development Agency (NDA) is set to open the Granada Mosque in Sirte, Libya, marking a significant milestone in the city’s reconstruction efforts. This project, carried out under direct instructions from Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, the general commander of the Libyan National Army, showcases the ongoing influence of military leadership in shaping the region’s recovery.
- The Department of Support and Development of Medical Services (DSDMS), a department under the direct supervision of the Tripoli government Cabinet, announced last Tuesday (11 June) that its medical team began to perform neurological operations within the main operations department in Tripoli University Hospital (TUH) in cooperation with the TUH’s medical staff.
- U.S. Special Envoy to Libya, Ambassador Richard Norland, has welcomed the High National Elections Commission’s announcement that voter registration for municipal council elections is now underway. “Successful municipal elections serve as a vital opportunity to demonstrate the viability of Libya’s electoral infrastructure, a way to engage with the Libyan people on the issues most important to them, and a chance for local communities to elect their local leaders,” said Norland.
INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS
- The new Ambassador of Spain to Libya, Javier Soria, presented his credentials to the Tripoli based Libyan Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Taher al Baour. Soria succeeds Javier García-Larrache.
- Libya and Tunisia signed a security agreement to pave the way for the reopening of the Ras Jedir border crossing. The agreement was signed by the Tripoli based Libyan government’s Acting Interior Minister Imad Trabelsi and his Tunisian counterpart Khaled Nouri in Tripoli in the presence of Tripoli based Prime Minister Abd Alhamid Aldabaiba. The three discussed the mechanism for reopening the Ras Jedir border crossing, facilitating the movement of trade between the two countries and discussing ways to strengthen bilateral relations between Libya and Tunisia.
