NATIONAL SECURITY ISSUES
- The Libyan Government appointed by the Parliament is preparing to hold the African-European conference on irregular migration at the end of May in Benghazi. Abdul Hadi Al-Hawaij, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, was briefed on the latest developments and preparations for holding the upcoming conference on migration. Last January, the participants in the African Conference on irregular migration in the “Benghazi Declaration” refused to play the role of “policeman” for the European continent.
NATIONAL POLITICS AND SOCIAL ISSUES
- In a statement released on X, Mahmud Elforjani, Head of Libya’s National Development Authority (NDA), announced thst, for the first time, the Murada region will have access to fresh drinking water within the next 120 days through NDA projects. The arid Murada area has grappled with a lack of potable water access for decades, forcing residents to rely on groundwater or have water trucked in. The NDA water infrastructure project will finally bring a reliable supply of safe drinking water to the region’s population.
INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS
- U.S. Special Envoy to Libya Ambassador Richard Norland and Chargé d’Affaires Jeremy Berndt has met with Canadian Ambassador Isabelle Savard in Tunis, where they discussed the Libyan situation, according to Norland. “We reaffirmed our joint commitment in support of Libyan sovereignty and a UN-led political process that can unify the country and its institutions,” US Embassy in Libya quoted Norland.
