A vessel belonging to the Mediterranean Saving Humanity group rescued 77 illegal immigrants who had sailed from Libya toward Europe. According to the Italian Aki Agency, the immigrants sailed three days ago on an overcrowded boat that was about to sink in the Maltese search and rescue area, 36 miles from the Sicilian island of Lampedusa.

The EU’s naval mission, Operation IRINI, has reiterated its commitment to enforcing the UN-imposed arms embargo on Libya. The operation continues to monitor and inspect commercial ships travelling to and from Libya to ensure compliance with international resolutions. In a statement, IRINI highlighted recent activities by the Greek naval ship HS LIMNOS, which has carried out distress call responses, friendly approaches, and inspections of commercial vessels. According to the statement, these measures aim to combat the illegal flow of arms to Libya, gather intelligence on unlawful oil exports, and report human smuggling activities to the appropriate authorities.

The Anti-Illegal Immigration Agency of Tripoli Branch announced on Wednesday, the deportation of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, without specifying their number, after the completion of deportation procedures. Pictures posted by the agency on its Facebook page showed dozens of Bangladeshi immigrants waiting to be deported.

Over four years after Al-Kaniyat armed group was ousted from the Libyan city of Tarhouna leaving mass graves in its wake, justice and adequate reparations remain elusive for survivors and relatives of victims of its merciless reign of terror involving mass unlawful killings, torture and enforced disappearances, Amnesty International said in a new report published. A report named “Every day we die a thousand times” said: Impunity for crimes against humanity in Tarhouna, Libya found that there were reasonable grounds to believe that Al-Kaniyat committed the crimes against humanity of murder, torture, enforced disappearance and unlawful imprisonment, as part of their planned, systematic and large-scale attack against the civilian population of Tarhouna between 2015 and 2020, in the aim of maintaining their control over the area.

The Acting Foreign Minister of the Government of National Unity, Taher Al-Baour, stressed Libyan need for the international community’s assistance to address the illegal immigration crisis, noting that Libya is a major starting point for immigrants heading to Italy. Al-Baour’s statements came during an interview with “Nova Agency” on the sidelines of the Mediterranean Dialogues in Rome, where he blamed the absence of a unified strategy by the European Union to address this phenomenon.

The High National Elections Commission (HNEC) has confirmed that appeals against the preliminary results of the “first group” municipal council elections must take place within two working days from the date of the announcement of the elections results. The HNEC explained in a statement that the date for appealing the aforementioned results before the district courts is Monday and Tuesday, November 25-26, 2024, in accordance with the articles of Chapter Ten “Appeals” of the executive regulations for municipal council elections.

Major General Osama Juwaili announced the reopening of the Wan Abaloul border crossing with Algeria, part of the Western Mountain Military Region, to boost security and tackle smuggling and organized crime in the Hammada and Al-Qubbah areas. Juwaili denied reports of forces loyal to Khalifa Haftar operating in the region, calling them false claims spread by smuggling networks. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has emphasized Ankara’s ongoing efforts to strengthen ties with various Libyan factions. Speaking on Saturday, Fidan announced the reopening of Turkey’s consulate in Benghazi, signalling continued communication with officials across the region. He noted that Turkish businesses are also engaging with relevant stakeholders in Libya, highlighting the positive outcomes of what he described as a “conflict-free environment” achieved through Turkish initiatives.
