NATIONAL SECURITY ISSUES
- A total of 151 Bangladeshi nationals, who were detained in Libya, were brought back home, according to multiple press reports. They landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 6:45 am with the help of the International Migration Organisation (IMO) from the Benghazi Ganfuda Detention Centre. Abul Hasnat Mohammad Khairul Bashar, Ambassador of Bangladesh to Libya, visited them at Benghazi Benina Airport on September 4.

UN envoy to Libya, Abdoulaye Bathily, met with the General Commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA), Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, in Benghazi, according to Bathily. They agreed on the need to finalize the draft electoral laws by 6+6 committee, and create conducive conditions for inclusive national elections in Libya, Bathily said in a statement.
- Speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives (HoR), Aguila Saleh, discussed with Special Representative of UN Secretary-General, Abdoulaye Bathily, developments of the political situation in Libya. Saleh met with Bathily in his office in al-Qubba, where they discussed the efforts made to hold presidential and parliamentary elections, foremost among them what was reached by the 6+6 Joint Committee for the Preparation of Electoral Laws.
- Libya’s interim government deployed military and security forces in downtown Tripoli to contain anti-Israel protests. Interior Ministry units barricaded Sikkat Road near the Council of Ministers and closed off surrounding streets, witnesses said. Opposition groups had announced protests following the suspension and investigation of Foreign Minister Najla Mangoush over revealed talks between Libyan and Israeli officials on establishing diplomatic ties.
INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS
- The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) envoy Abdoulaye Bathily met with Libyan political, security and civil society figures in Al-Aziziyah town. According to video clips published by the Al-Aziziyah Municipal Council’s media office, the discussions focused on supporting the Libyan people’s right to self-determination through presidential and parliamentary elections.

Libya’s Attorney-General said he would establish a fact-finding mission to investigate a meeting last month between the country’s foreign minister Najla Mangoush and her Israeli counterpart. In a brief statement, Attorney-General Al-Siddiq al-Sour said the fact-finding mission would probe violations of Libya’s rules of boycotting Israel and “investigate the extent of damage to Libya’s interests” because of the meeting.
