A total of 1,161 migrants were intercepted and returned to Libya between 7 and 13 September 2025, according to the latest weekly maritime update from the International Organization for Migration (IOM). The interceptions occurred off several coastal cities including Tripoli, Zuwara, Azzawya, and Derna. IOM reports that 17,402 migrants have been intercepted and returned to Libya so far in 2025, including 15,155 men, 1,516 women, and 586 children, with gender data unavailable for 145 individuals.
In the same context, the Libyan Red Crescent’s Tobruk branch recovered two bodies, found east of the city in two different locations. The Red Crescent explained that one of the bodies was found on Kambut beach, 60 kilometers east of the city, and the other on Qabis beach, 90 kilometers east of Tobruk. The Libyan Red Crescent indicated that the recovery of the bodies took place after receiving a report from the competent authorities.
Since the beginning of the year, 456 deaths and 420 people missing have been recorded on the Central Mediterranean route.
