Popular Reconciliation Forum in Al-Zawiya
On July 24, dignitaries and sheikhs from the western region took parto to the “Popular Reconciliation Forum” organized by the Council of Dignitaries of Al-Zawiya, west of Tripoli, to announce their support to the National Stability Government (NSG). The Forum was attended by the Minister of the Interior of the NSG, Issam Abu Zariba, the Minister of Health (NSG), Othman Abdel-Jalil, the Minister of Civil Aviation (NSG), Hisham Abu Shekiwat, and some members of the House of Representatives (HoR).
The meeting discussed reconciliation between the social components and the efforts of the NSG to support the national unity and avoid external interference in Libya’s internal affairs, which is considered a threat for the increasing of political divisions in the country.
At the conclusion of the Forum, the Prime Minister of the NSG, Fathi Bashagha, said that this conference reflects the aspiration of all the Libyan people to the creation of a civil and democratic State, underlining the need to initiate a dialogue with all political and civilian parts in the country, in order to start the electoral process as soon as possible.
Lavrov expresses support for UN efforts in Libya
On July 24, at the end of a meeting in Cairo with his Egyptian counterpart, Sameh Shoukry, the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, stressed the need for the United Nations to support a transition process that puts an end to the crisis in Libya , under the aegis of the Security Council (UNSC), involving all Libyan political parties. Lavrov underlined the urgency of appointing a new United Nations envoy to Libya in order to solve all outstanding issues.
Shoukry said he had discussed a series of regional issues and primarily the Libyan situation with his Russian counterpart, adding that the two sides agreed on the importance of restoring security and stability in Libya.
