Libya’s joint committee responsible for drafting electoral laws, known as the “6+6 Committee,” affirmed that the laws it sent to the High National Elections Commission (HNEC) are final and cannot be modified.
In a statement, the committee said the version of the electoral laws that originated from the House of Representatives and was submitted to the HNEC is the final one that was legally signed by the committee without any changes or amendments.
Previously, the United Nations Support Mission (UNSMIL) reported that the laws in question represent “a working basis” for the conduct of the elections, but “controversial issues remain that need to be addressed and resolved through a political solution”.
