Paris continues to carry out covert actions in Libya and French intelligence flies to Benghazi prising Aguila Saleh. The French secret service intends to convince Aguila Saleh to form an opposition to the new Presidential Council.
Another intelligence unit flies in Libya
A specialized site released that, on February 10, a French military aircraft type C-130H “Hercules” (reg. 5151 – callsign CTM3149) left Orleans airbase and headed to Benghazi where landed at 16.00LT. On February 11 the same flight left Benghazi at 11:30 LT and landed at 14:43 LT in Perpignan. Perpignan is the base for the CPIS (Centre Parachutiste d’instruction Spécialisée) one of the three components of the DGSE (Direction Générale de la Sécurité extérieure – French foreign intelligence) that includes personnel specialized in guerrilla and counter-guerrilla warfare. The personnel belonging to the French intelligence infiltrated in Benghazi is specialized into unconventional warfare and is deployed in all the countries that France intends to influence.
France meddles in Libyan internal affairs
France has already sent in the past intelligence units in Benghazi. However, this new deployment is in stark contrast with the current political situation. A member of Tobruk parliament affirmed: “we do not need more French military power. We need soft power and political initiatives. France is meddling in our internal affairs and its intelligence unit flies to Benghazi”.
France does not get credit for attempting to solve a problem it created in the first place
Libyans strongly criticized France because it started the war. As a Libyan army officer said “France does not get credit for attempting to solve a problem it created in the first place”. Paris did not succeed in overthrowing the Government in Tripoli through Haftar but is still using its intelligence to run covert operations. Historically, France used intelligence to meddle in Africa internal affairs and Libya is not an exception.
