- Apr. 23, nearly 130 migrants were killed when a rubber boat capsized off the coast of Libya, the non-governmental organization Sos Mediterranèe said in a statement;
- Apr. 20, about 11 people were injured in varying degrees as a result of a fire that broke out in the Al-Kuraimia market, located on Dubai Street in southern Tripoli. The fire broke out in a market for household items. The fire began after the sunset continued until the early hours of Wednesday morning.
BENGHAZI
- Apr. 23, PM Al-Dabaiba claimed that he would be working to rebuild Benghazi, and begin a national reconciliation campaign. This comes amid a statement issued to members of the Shura Council of Benghazi Revolutionaries (SCBR), promising them they would return home.
HARIGA
- Apr. 24, On Friday, Libya’s National Oil Corporation (NOC) said that it welcomes the statement of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) over the declaration of force majeure at the Marsa al-Hariga terminal. UNSMIL voiced its concern regarding the recent shutdown in oil production at Marsa al-Hariga, indicating that other shutdowns may be imminent. The United Nations mission said that the uninterrupted production of oil, as well as maintaining the independence and impartiality of the NOC remains a vital cornerstone to the economic, social and political stability of Libya.
KUFRA
- Apr. 25, the Information Office of the Kufra Military Region stated that the information circulated on social media pages regarding an attempt by enemies to enter the territory, was false, and region was still under the legitimate authorities’ control.

- Apr. 22, the Sirte Oil Company (SOC) announced that it would be unable to continue producing oil due to the lack of necessary funding, leading to a cessation of production within 72 hours. This came in a letter addressed by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the company, Masoud Suleiman Musa, to the President of the National Oil Corporation (NOC), Mustafa Sanalla;
GENERAL ELECTIONS
- Apr. 25, the Head of the National Defense and Security Committee in the Libyan Parliament, Talal Al-Mihoub ruled out that the general elections would be held on time, because they could be challenged by the foreign fighters and mercenaries who remain in the country. In exclusive statements to the Russian Sputnik news agency, he accused the Tripoli-based High Council of State (HCS) of working to maintain the current structure of chaos in the country;
COVID-19
- Apr. 25, the Health Minister of the Government of National Unity (GNU), Ali Al-Zanati confirmed that anti-Covid-19 vaccine had reached many parts of the country, including the south, and the vaccination process had begun in several health centers.
INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS
- Apr. 25, Libyan Minister of Justice, Halima Abdel-Rahman received the Head of the EU Border Assistance Mission in Libya (EUBAM), Natalina Cea and her accompanying delegation in Tripoli. Abdel-Rahman praised EUBAM’s efforts in developing the capabilities of the justice system since the two sides concluded the 2018 Memorandum of Understanding. They also discussed cooperation regarding the training of Libyan judges and ministry employees to hold and monitor elections on 24 December 2021;
- Apr. 25, Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab League, Housam Zaki confirmed the League’s support for greater stability in Libya, indicating that the recent quartet talks that included the Arab League, United Nations, European Union, and the African Union were aimed at supporting the current political process;
- Apr. 25, Libya’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Najla Al-Mangoush, confirmed that her visit to Italy aimed mainly to activate the joint friendship treaty between Libya and Italy that was signed in 2008. During her two-day visit to Italy, she met with several Italian Ministers such as the Ministers of Interior, Defence, Trade and Development, and the Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, in addition to an extended meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs;
- Apr. 24, Deputy Head of the Libyan Presidential Council, Abdullah Al-Lafi, called on all countries to help Libya remove foreign forces and mercenaries from the country;
- Apr. 24, the United States (US) Department of Defence spokesperson, USN Cmdr. Jessica McNulty confirmed that pursuing the political path in Libya requires all parties to adhere to the ceasefire agreement. She stressed the need for all foreign military forces, all foreign fighters and groups affiliated with foreign parties and mercenaries, to leave Libya. McNulty said that the US continues to support the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF). She added that the US is dealing with the danger arising from terrorist groups in Libya, including the Islamic States (ISIS) in Libya and Al-Qaeda in the Maghreb.
- Apr. 24, the Tunisian Minister of Transport and Logistics, Moez Chakchouk, affirmed his country’s willingness to facilitate the opening of a passenger and cargo maritime line between the ports of Misurata, Sfax, and Goulette (Halq al-Wadi). During his meeting with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Libyan-Tunisian Economic Cooperation Council, Saber Bougherra, Chakchouk said that they could start operating the line at La Goulette port and the port of Zarzis as a first step, before extending the route to Sfax after equipping the port’s facilities to meet the transporting needs;
- Apr. 24, the Director of the Moral Guidance Department of the Libyan National Army (LNA), Major General Khaled Al-Mahjoub, said that the army is closely monitoring the situation in the southern part of the country. It confirmed that it had deployed combat patrols in the area with the aim of securing the cities and villages located along the country’s southern borders with Chad. Al-Mahjoub indicated that the LNA’s General Command is fully aware of all the dangers facing the country, calling for the necessity of concerted local and international efforts to solve the Chadian crisis, as it reflects negatively on the security of Libya;
- Apr. 24, the United States (US) Ambassador to Libya, Richard Norland, conducted a telephone call with the Deputy Head of the Libyan Presidential Council, Musa al-Koni, reaffirming the importance of the Presidential Council in evolving political structures, and calling for unifying Libya’s military institutions;
- Apr. 24, the Head of the Presidential Council, Mohamed al-Menfi, met with French President, Manuel Macron, in Chad. The two leaders held discussions over a number of issues relating to developments in the security situation in Chad and the region, as well as its impact on security and stability in Libya. Al-Menfi had arrived in N’Djamena to participate in the funeral ceremonies of the late Chadian President, Idriss Deby, after he ordered all military units in the south to take immediate measures to secure and protect the southern border;
- Apr. 24, Libya’s Foreign Minister, Najla Al-Mangoush, called on Turkey to withdraw its forces from the North-African country, noting that dialogue has started with Ankara;
- Apr. 23, Egypt’s President, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, asserted that Egypt is ready to help its western neighbour Libya to protect its strategic borders. During a meeting with several senior army commanders on Friday, President El-Sisi said that Egypt has the experience and capabilities to assist the Libyan administration on various files, including border security;

This came during his meeting with Libyan Foreign Minister, Najla Al-Mangoush in Rome, focused on Rome’s commitment to supporting the stabilization process in Libya.
