Security and Stability
- Moussa Al-Koni, Deputy of the Presidential Council and the Supreme Commander of the Libyan Army, met with Lieutenant General Salah Al-Din Al-Namroush. The meeting took place in the capital, Tripoli. They discussed the security and military conditions in the regions. They also discussed ways to coordinate efforts. The goal is to organize the work of military units and sectors. This will enhance their efficiency. It will enable them to contribute effectively. This contribution is vital for establishing security and stability in the country. Al-Koni commended the efforts of military units. He praised their work across various specialties. - Desert patrols seized two vehicles. These patrols belong to the Southeast branch of the Anti-Illegal Migration Agency. The vehicles were used for smuggling migrants and fuel. The first vehicle was intercepted during continuous desert patrols. It was coming from Sudanese territory. It was engaged in smuggling. It carried 22 undocumented migrants. The second vehicle was heading outside Libyan borders. It was transporting a quantity of gasoline. The agency confirmed that desert patrols continue their security operations.
- Libya’s envoy to the UN, Al-Taher Al-Sunni, held a constructive meeting. He met with US Ambassador to the UN, Mike Waltz. They discussed the latest developments in Libya. They also addressed challenges facing the political process. This coincided with the US assuming the UN Security Council presidency in March. During the meeting, Al-Sunni emphasized continued US engagement. This engagement supports efforts to unify Libyan institutions. It advances the political process. It also enhances prospects for stability in the country. Both sides also discussed recent investment plans. These plans are for the economic and energy sectors. Al-Sunni shared this information in an X post on Wednesday. They stressed the importance of these steps. These steps can contribute to achieving peace and stability in Libya. Governance, Economy, and Politics
- Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR), Ageela Saleh, has now reversed his decision to impose the controversial import tax on some goods. Consequently, all goods and services will be exempt from these new taxes from the date of the decision until a study is conducted by experts. It is expected that this decision will be implemented starting next Sunday 15 March – which is when the Central Bank officially is expected to receive the letter.
- The Director General of the Libya Development and Reconstruction Fund, Belgasem Khalifa Haftar, stressed in a gathering of eastern and central Libyan tribal leaders the need to continue public spending on development and reconstruction. He stressed that spending should be continuous and increasing every year. He added to his audience “just give me the money and then hold me accountable’’. Belgasem Haftar’s call for increased public projects spending comes despite warnings from the Central Bank of Libya and economic experts about the negative impact of uncontrolled public spending on development projects, and others, on the exchange rate, inflation, prices and the deterioration of the economic situation in the country. In his speech justifying his family’s huge spending, Belgasem Haftar said the road network in Benghazi and its neighboring cities and in southern Libya is in a great state of improvement, and during the next three years there will be a great change for the region.

- At the first Cabinet meeting of 2026 held at the Cabinet Office in Tripoli, Prime Minister Abdel Hamid Aldabaiba called for the unification of state institutions and legitimate elections as he revealed his new-look cabinet. He said Unifying Libyan state institutions is a comprehensive national goal, and the government will continue its efforts to advance it. He stressed that the legitimacy of his government is based on the Libyan Political Agreement (LPA) governing the transitional phase. This, despite the Benghazi-based Libyan parliament (the House of Representatives – HoR) having passed a vote of no confidence in the Aldabaiba government and appointed a new eastern-based (but international unrecognized) government instead. Aldabaiba said his government is committed to fulfilling its responsibilities within this framework until the electoral process, which all Libyans are awaiting, is completed.
- Mohamed Al-Manfi, Dean of the Faculty of Media at Benghazi University, stressed that media’s ability to perform its role in Libya is conditional. It depends on clear official indicators. It also requires declared state policies. These policies should include laws, legislation, and practical solutions to crises. Al-Manfi further explained that Libya’s current economic and political reality imposes significant challenges on media discourse. It also raises questions about the media’s appropriate role. He noted the country experienced multiple crises in recent years. These affected economic, political, social, and cultural aspects. This impacted citizens’ lives. It increased living difficulties. Media cannot play an effective role in such conditions. It requires official decisions. It also needs state actions to address these challenges. Professional media work relies on accurate facts. It also uses precise information and data. These insights often come as official indicators or effective legislation.

Economy and Energy
- The implementation of a project to develop the electricity grid has begun. This project is in the Southern District of Tolmeitha. Tolmeitha is part of Al-Sahel Municipality in Jabal al-Akhdar. The project receives full support from the Reconstruction and Development Fund of Libya. It is directly supervised by the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energies. This initiative aims to address weak current and frequent power outages. Residents have suffered from these issues for years.
- The Pioneers of Entrepreneurship Foundation for Development, Digital Investment, and Artificial Intelligence organized an electronic discussion workshop. It aimed to promote AI and digitalization culture among Libyan youth. This is part of its efforts to expand youth participation in modern technology and the digital economy. Abdullah Maatouq, the Foundation’s CEO, noted the workshop’s discussions. It covered artificial intelligence applications and digital transformation. The workshop also prepared for an international digital event. This event aims to achieve a world record. It seeks entry into the Guinness Book of Records. It will feature broad participation from within and outside Libya.
- The Emergency and Rapid Response Team from the Ministry of Water Resources in the Government of National Unity conducted a visit to several dams in the Western Region. The purpose was to monitor the dams’ conditions. The Ministry’s media office reported that the team issued instructions to dam sites calling for raising the level of readiness and maximum alert.

- A news report published by the American website “Market Screener” stated that a Memorandum of Understanding was concluded between Libya Telecom and Technology and international company ZTE. It covers digital transformation and network infrastructure development. The report clarified the MOU was signed during the “Mobile World Congress Barcelona 2026.” This partnership aims to accelerate digital transformation and network development in Libya. ZTE is a leading international company providing integrated ICT solutions. The collaboration leverages ZTE’s expertise. According to the report, this partnership aims to drive innovation. It will expand 4G and 5G network coverage. It also includes developing an integrated digital services system. Sustainability is a priority. This involves integrating energy-saving solutions. Green network technologies will also be used.
